In April 2017 Danmarks Borgcentre opened the special exhibition "Metropolis of the Vikings" or as in Danish also called Haithabu. For this purpose, we expanded the exciting guide with new multimedia content. Visitors can now view augmented reality elements of the castle, the church and the popular gate. The exhibition places unique objects from all over the world in a new context, informs about the worldwide trade relations of the Vikings and their lives about 1000 years ago. Haithabu was once the largest commercial city in the North, and was busy trading with the great kingdoms of the South and East. Furs from Russia, glass from Italy, spices from the Middle East, slaves, silver, gold fish and much more were traded. Haithabu was a vibrant city of ships, people, goods and all sorts of languages and religions. Furthermore, the exhibition also addresses other Vikining towns and dwellings around Denmark. With the new guide, the digital exploration of the Middle Ages is possible and of course the specially designed "Ghost Hunt" game for young and old may not be missing.
The exhibition was developed in close cooperation with the Museum Haithabu in Germany and with financial support from the Museum Vordingborg, the Orient Foundation and Johanne Louis-Hansen Foundation. The exhibition was on display until December 2017.
